Every year, the 15 year old's of Camp Agawak take a trip to prep them for their CIT year. This past week, Kenzi and I led the group of 40 on a 3-day camping trip in the Porcupine Mountains. The area in located in the small town of Ontonagon, MI, next to Superior Lake.
We left camp early Tuesday morning with the vans filled to the brim. After a two-hour drive we finally arrived to good weather and a spacious campsite. After the girls set up tents and ate some lunch, they took a couple short hikes to explore the area and then headed to the beach. After dinner and desert, the girls went back to the beach to watch the sunset (which was a cotton candy painting and AWESOME) and the headed off to bed early.
Day two started out with french toast and Nutella sandwiches after a good night's sleep. Around 11am we headed out for a hike, but unfortunately wasn't able to finish without getting rained on. The girls were troopers and splashed through the mud and wind before we made it back to camp. The rest of the day was filled with rainy beach trips, Lake of the Clouds vistas, and chocolate brownie soup treats. Despite the positive attitudes, storm clouds continued to roll on for the evening and we decided to cut the trip a half a day short.
Kenzi and I are so proud of these brave PA's! This trip was the first camping experience for a lot of these girls and they still continued to find positive light and solution-oriented attitudes throughout! Go cabin Y and 15!!

Crystal Lake Week One
Later last week, we had the opportunity of taking Cabin 1 to Crystal Lake, the clearest lake in Wisconsin. The sun shined just long enough for us to play, swim, and grill out hamburgers by the water.
Raven Trail Week One
Last Thursday, a group of 6 junior campers joined up for the first hike of the summer on the Raven Trail! The state trail is located about 15 minutes north-east of camp and wraps around three lakes. Despite the mosquitoes, the girls continued to laugh and enjoy the nature escape for a couple of hours.

2017 Summer!
We at Camp Agawak are so excited going into the 2017 summer! We are so happy to welcome our new Tripper Jenna to our team. As well as the news the Casey will be coming back this year for our PA trip. We are well under way planning adventures for our campers and have made a couple changes to our regular trips. We have decided to change the PA trip from Copper Falls to the Porcupine Mountains in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We felt that our campers were up for a bit more of a challenge this year! We will be camping, hiking and canoeing for three days. The Porcupine Mountains is a beautiful location along Lake Superior. If you have any questions email: agawaktrips@gmail.com. Our CIT trip to the Boundary waters is set and planned! We have an amazing group of campers going this year that will have the adventure of a lifetime. Cant wait to see everyone!

TRIPS, TRIPS & MORE TRIPS
CRYSTAL LAKE
This is one of the most requested trips of the session, and one of the laid back trips we take out. And obviously by the pictures you can tell there is a reason it is the most loved! This lake is so beautiful, clean and clear. On this lake no motor vehicles are allowed, so it is very calm and relaxing.
TEEPEE
Our tee-pee trips are lead by McKenzie and I but we are also pretty lucky this year to also have Iris come out and camp with us. We stayed out there for our first time the other night and it was a blast! All of the girls loved it and the s'mores were a good add on to the night. Overall we heard great stories from Iris about what camp was like 40 years ago and listening to Mary tell us about the stories of Agawak!
NINTH GRADE TUBING TRIP
My absolute favorite part about this trip was seeing a girl tear up because she saw a fish! This was such a fun sporadic trip we had with girls and it was good getting to know a few more of the campers. It was very relaxing kayaking along side of them!
ESCANABA TRAIL & NORTH TROUT LAKE
We were lucky enough to get a great last day trip out today to Escanaba Trail and North Trout Lake! Treated by baby frogs, swimming and camp nachos I would say it ended up being not only a great trip for the girls but a favorite for McKenzie and I!RAVEN TRAIL 2 MILE HIKE
McKenzie was also lucky enough to go on a trip yesterday walking about 2 miles on the Raven Trail. She took out two girls and had a great time! Raven Trail is only about 10 minutes away and from what I have heard, the views are just gorgeous!
BOUNDARY WATERS
I have been working with the CIT's on learning how to portage with one and two people and just canoeing in general! We figure out our groups we will be with on Thursday morning. Before all parents get here this weekend the girls will get their packs so that moms and dads can help pack a bag. We also on Thursday are going to practice our tent taking down and putting up skills so that when we are there at the camp site everything will go much more smoothly. I am so beyond excited to get to spend time with these girls and I think their determination and excitement makes us that much more happy to canoe with them across the boundary waters. One week and we will be there! Wish us luck :)Okay! Check back to hear how more trips, especially the Boundary Waters trip!

Hello from the trippers!
Hello Everyone!
We are so excited to be your girls tripping leaders this summer. New to the tripping program at Camp Agawak, we are off to a good start and already have gone on three trips! Casey, McKenzi and Ellie recently went on Copper Falls with the PA's and it was a fun, relaxing trip! The girls loved the falls, hiking and especially sitting at the beach! We were lucky enough to get great weather up until the last morning when it rained. The girls were still wonderful and we would say overall it was a fun, adventurous trip, seeing a little more of Wisconsin! I hope we opened the horizons of these girls a little more to the amazing world we live in.
Our day trips so far have included Rib Mountain and Eau Claire Dells. We had a few girls go on the Rib Mountain trip, Ava F. and Ginger R. We had a blast looking at the quarry and hiking up to the observation tower! They even were treated to Briq's ice cream, and they took on a little more than they could handle, the 1 pound cone. At the very least it was entertainment for us!
Today, July 1st, we took on the Eau Claire Dells. A beautiful rock formation in the Eau Claire River. We hiked around on the rocks and then down the river. This trip we were lucky enough to take three counselors and 25 girls. Mostly from Cabin 6 and Cabin Y. We were treated to pizza pudgy pies for lunch then a nice (cold) swim after that!
Overall our trips are getting more fun and we are loving meeting all the girls! We cannot wait for our upcoming trips. This summer is flying by but we still have some great adventures ahead!
Bye for now!
Casey, Kenzie and Ellie
